![]() March 12, 1997 Monarch School Adds Woven and Knit Classes Glendale, NY - Monarch Design Systems announced the expansion of the popular Monarch School curriculum to include two new classes of particular note to woven and knit designers: "Introduction to Woven Fabrics" and "Introduction to Knit Fabrics." "Many designers, without the specific background, often find themselves in the position of having to create woven and knit fabrics. These new classes will introduce designers to the basics of wovens or knits, enabling them to communicate more effectively with textile mills," said David Matsil, Managing Director of Monarch. Introduction to Woven Fabrics is an overview of woven fabrics and the technology used to create them. Participants will examine common fabrics such as plain weave and twills, learn the teminology surrounding their production, see how a handloom works, and classify everyday fabrics. A bibliography, glossary, and workbook with simple illustrations will be provided. No prior woven experience is necessary. The class is being held at Parsons School of Design in NYC on May 22, 1:30 - 4:30pm, and at Drexel University in Philadelphia on June 11, 1:30 - 4:30pm. Introduction to Knit Fabrics is an overview of knit fabrics and the technology used to create them. Participants will get hands-on experience with a wide variety of knitted fabrics, learn terminology associated with knits, see how a stitch is formed, view various industrial machinery, and classify everyday knit fabrications. A workbook along with knit swatches and a glossary will be provided. No prior knit experience is necessary.The class is being held at Parsons School of Design in NYC on June 12, 1:30 - 4:30pm.
