"Computer Basics for Fashion Designers" Joins Monarch School Fall Lineup

Glendale, NY - Expanding its efforts to meet the educational needs of the textile and fashion industries, Monarch Design Systems has added the half-day class "Computer Hardware Basics for Designers" to its popular Monarch School curriculum. Classes are presently held in New York City and Philadelphia.

"This was the most requested class in our customer surveys," says Eric Rosenberg, Marketing Manager. "It will provide textile and fashion designers with the fundamental knowledge to be more self-reliant and solve everyday computing issues." The class covers computers and peripherals - "from Apple® to Zip® Drives" - and operating systems. No prior computer experience is required.

Also announced was the full Monarch School fall schedule. Particularly noteworthy to woven and knit designers is the "Understanding Woven Fabrics" and "Understanding Knit Fabrics" classes. Understanding Woven Fabrics is a half-day lecture format overview of woven fabrics and the technology used to create them. Participants will examine common fabrics such as plain weave and twills, learn the terminology surrounding their production, see how a handloom works, and classify everyday fabrics.

Understanding Knit Fabrics is a half-day lecture format overview of knit fabrics and the technology used to create them. Participants will get hands-on experience with a wide variety of knitted fabrics; learn terminology associated with knits; learn how to get designs right the first time by getting design patterns and colors to fit on a knitting machine; see how a stitch is formed; view various industrial machinery; and classify everyday knit fabrications. No prior experience is required for either class.

Rounding out the fall schedule are the following hands-on classes: Introduction to Adobe Photoshop® for Textile Design; Adobe Illustrator® for Textile Design; and Introduction to Fractal Painter® for Sketching. Those interested in obtaining the class schedule or registering should call Monarch at 718-894-8520.
